Tesla Self-Driving Cars Now Able to Tailgate Better than Humans

PALO ALTO, CA—Commenting on the latest press release before the 2016 earnings report, Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressed excitement about the latest v8.1 software update that will bring additional new autopilot capabilities to all Tesla models currently on the road.

Tesla cars such as the Model S, the first fully electric sedan, come with four cameras, a radar sensor, 12 ultrasonic sensors and an onboard computer system which give the vehicle the ability to perform traffic aware cruise control, automatic lane changes in addition to auto parallel parking and perpendicular parking.

The new software updates which will be installed automatically on January 1, 2017 will bring some new and surprising artificial intelligence strengths to the way the cars drive on the road. Elon Musk explains the counter intuitive problem Tesla faces with autopilot:

Many people don’t realize that robotic cars being such perfect drivers can be a huge problem. When humans are driving they expect other cars to drive like humans – which typically means driving faster than the speed limit, not letting you into their lane etc. Our new software release will make the cars more human like but in a safer and smarter way.

The cars will now have an auto honk feature and provide seamless cut-offs 0f other cars, tailgate and drive a moderate 10-15 MPH over the speed limit while the cameras and radar detector look out for police speed traps. These changes are expected to make Tesla cars  get to their destinations faster and appear like they are being driven like a regular asshole which most humans would be expecting.
